“SISTER CITIES”

The podcast series “Sister Cities” follows Shahrazad Squad producer Raeshma Razvi in conversation with each of her three sisters living in 3 different cities: Chicago, Oakland and Cleveland.  It’s an exploration of the external and internal sense of place and identity through the lens of sisterhood.

Wondering how her sisters and their sisterhood is holding up with the challenges of life in contemporary American cities, she embarks on this personal and social inquiry that takes her into the homes of her sisters and into the heart of great cities. 

Along the way she shows how —like Shahrazad of 1001 Nights— her sisters (like other SWANASA women) are trying to ‘save the kingdom’ of their community, either through healthcare, educational equity, or sustainability in the global apparel industry. And yet living a purpose-driven life has its perils as a woman.  (Can we as women save ourselves and save society, in the same creative endeavors?) 

These podcasts will be simultaneously a portrait of an American city as well as mini-portraits of their Shahrazads with a small-S —the women creatives and community builders whose work day after day is to reimagine a better kingdom, and patiently tell it into being.

Interwoven or interstitial to these episodes will be ones that feature other sister combinations from other members of the Shahrazad Squad
